Heather Biard has been teaching at Elevate for the past 3 years. This year at Elevate she teaches French (5 different levels), Sign Language (2 levels), English Literature, Knitting, Fiber Fun, and Sheep to Shawl! Before Elevate she had been teaching kids for over 23 years! She homeschooled her 3 children for 19 years, she taught a drama class for 12 years, and has been teaching people about spinning and fiber even longer.
I had the opportunity to ask Heather a few questions and learn more about one of our awesome teachers here at Elevate!
Helen Kinser: Do you have any family?
Heather Biard: I do! I have 1 husband, 3 grown children (2 daughters and a son), 2 son in laws, and 2 grandsons!
HK: What about hobbies? What do you like to do when you are not teaching?
HB: Anything to do with fiber arts like, knitting ,sewing, spinning, or weaving. That seems to keep me pretty busy but I also like reading, hiking, cooking, and traveling to name a few hobbies!
HK: Alright, tell me a fun fact about yourself!
HB: I played hockey in high school!
HK: When and where did you learn to speak French?
HB: I learned French first in school just like the kids I teach are learning. But when I was 25 I moved to French speaking Switzerland and lived there for a year and a half so that is where I really learned French.
HK: When and where did you learn how to spin and knit?
HB: I learned to knit from my mother when I was 5 but I didn’t do it very much until my mother taught my daughters and then they taught me again! I learned to spin when I was 12 at a sheep farm when I was visiting my brother.
HK: Why do you teach at Elevate?
HB: I homeschooled all three of my children for 19 years. So I wanted to continue to be connected to the homeschooling community. I also love getting kids involved in and excited about learning new things whether that is a language or a craft!
HK: Ok now for a fun question! If you could be an animal what animal would you be?
HB: That’s easy! A sheep!
Thank you Heather for being such an awesome teacher for kids and adults alike here at Elevate we appreciate all your hard work and passion!
