The basis of science is the relentless need to know “why”. It is this need, this irresistible curiosity to search for answers, that drives and fuels science and therefore our work this year. Children are natural born scientists, possessing the most important precursor to scientific inquiry–curiosity. This innate inquisitiveness will be encouraged, grown, and guided as we practice and apply the scientific method of observation, prediction and experimentation. Our emphasis will be on critical thinking and problem solving. During classtime, there will be challenging, often counter-intuitive, demonstrations and then guidance in applying the scientific method to make predictions. Then, students will participate in hands-on experiments and activities to test their predictions and draw conclusions. The subject matter will include concepts and principles from physical science, life science, earth science and engineering. This is a Homeschool Tutorial. Class length is 32 weeks divided into 2 – 16 week semesters.
