My love for dance began as a young child years ago on my birthday. My parents placed a porcelain ballerina on my birthday cake for decoration and I fell in love. Two years later, after continually asking if I could please take dance class, my parents relented, and I was allowed through the studio doors of Carolyn Clark School of Dance. Little did I know I would be going through studio doors for the next fifty-two years.
Some of the more notable studio doors I’ve walked through for my dance education are: The International Academy of Dance with Anna Marie Holmes; Walnut Hill School of Education and Performing Arts with Syndelle Gomberg; The Atlanta School of Ballet with Robert Barnette, Merrilee Smith, and Mary Munroe; Robert Archard’s City Center as a company member; Steps and Peridance in New York City.
My professional teaching experiences include: Musical Theatre Dance I and II at Lee University; Tennessee Association of Dance, President 2009-2010, Board Member 2006-2010; Zena Rommett Floor Barre Instructor, Certification 2007 in NYC; Recognized by the Tennessee Governors School of the Arts as Outstanding Dance Educator 2007; Youth America Grande Prix Coach 2007, 2016, 2017; and professional development for four years with Studio Expansion and Studio Retention Programs by Chantelle Bruinsma, Sydney Australia.
For twenty-six years I was the Executive/Artistic Director of the Tennessee Youth Ballet.
As a choreographer I have had the honor of creating for Lee University, Utah Musical Theatre, South Eastern Theatre Conference, Dollywood, The Firebird with Anna Marie Holmes, and The Nutcracker with multiple dance companies including Moscow Ballet. I am a forty-year member of Actors Equity Association.
I continue my love for dance with the children of Elevate Life and Art knowing in my heart this is where God has placed me.
