I have a Masters in Education in Counseling degree from UNC-Greensboro and am a licensed professional counselor. I have three and half years of experience in academic assessment such as IQ, achievement, and aptitude testing, plus I worked nine years as an advisor and counselor at Forsyth Tech in Winston-Salem and five years as an advisor for A-B Tech.
While I have enjoyed being an advisor and counselor, I also love teaching students of all ages and backgrounds how to read and write. I have taught English as a Foreign Language in Madrid, Spain. I have several years experience tutoring reading for elementary school students in Winston-Salem, Hermitage, TN, and Asheville. Last year, I was an ESL, Spanish, and Orton-Gillingham tutor for Tutoring Connection through Carolina Day School.
I am completing my Orton-Gillingham practicum through the Key Learning Center at Carolina Day School. Orton-Gillingham is an innovative multi sensory approach to teaching children with dyslexia or other language differences how to read and write. The practicum requires me to work with first, second, or third grade students only, but I also can provide affordable tutoring in general in reading, writing, social studies, and Spanish to students at any grade level.
